What did you see in March 2009?

Picture of Saturn taken in January 2009 by Paulo Casquinha

8th March 2009 - View Saturn at its best this year!

On 8th March 2009, Saturn is at opposition. This means that the planet appears opposite the Sun on our sky thus making it shine at its brightest (magnitude 0.5).
During March, Saturn is viewable all night from sunset to sunrise and you can find it at the foot of the constellation Leo.
As usual, if you take any pictures of Saturn at opposition and you would like them displayed on this website please email them to gallery@WatchTheStars.co.uk. Don't forget to tell me who you are and where the pictures were taken.

Comet Lulin, March 2009

March is your last chance to catch a glimpse of comet Lulin!

Comet Lulin is heading out of our solar system now and is growing dimmer by the day. If you do want to try and catch a glimpse of it take a look on the 5th or 6th of March. It will be close to M44 (the Beehive Cluster) in the contellation of Cancer.
